The Study Hall - Dallas Test Preparation

In the Dallas office we prepare students individually for the SAT, PSAT, ACT, LSAT, GMAT, GRE, and ISEE. We adapt the method we describe below for preparing for the SAT to match the test and student.

You have many choices to make between now and enrolling in college.  One of them may be preparing for the PSAT, SAT, ACT, or all of the tests. We would like to introduce you to The Study Hall Test Preparation Program.  Since we work with students until they finish taking the tests their senior year, our test preparation program offers students the flexibility of scheduling and the long term instruction it takes to maximize their scores.  We work with them until they finish their senior year, adapting and modifying the program individually - as if they are in a class of their own.

I frequently get asked what makes our program better than others.  Among other features, advantages of using The Study Hall program are:

INDIVIDUAL INSTRUCTION - I have been instructing and refining the program since 1992.

SCHEDULING - We are open 7 days a week and the majority of the time appointments are not needed, so students work according to their schedule.

IMPACT over HOURS - Since I work with students individually, we are focused on what each individual student needs to work on efficiently.

VALUE - $600 covers unlimited access and instruction for juniors until graduation.

CONNECTION not PRESSURE- Improvement here comes from connecting individually, not pressure in a group setting.

INTERACTIVE PROGRAMS - Propriety programs we have developed are available for students here at the office and online for intense, focused work.

Typically, students come into the office for two individual one-hour sessions.  In these sessions, the students get a text, and we take apart the SAT and show the students the strategies and verbal, math, and writing skills required to beat the test.  These appointments are scheduled.  The analogy we usually make is that these sessions are like showing someone how to ride a bike.  Once we have shown how it should be done, it takes practice to master the skill.

That is just what the students do; they come in as often as they can and take segments of the test.  We are open seven days a week, and they don't need appointments to take the tests, so they can fit test sessions into their schedules conveniently.  Once they take one, we score it, and I go over it with them, amplifying what they are doing right and modifying anything they are doing wrong.  This way they learn to recognize the puzzles and questions the SAT presents to them.  They develop the mental toughness and confidence to handle the tricky adversarial nature of the test.

As we work with each student, we do periodic detailed evaluations of the types of errors they may be making and the types of questions that may be difficult for them. If a student has specific weaknesses, we address these with a wide array of supplementary materials onsite and online. For instance, we email or text-message the students a Vocabulary Word of the Day.

The students here get exclusive access to our website at studyhallonline.com.  They will find a virtual test where it is as if an instructor is taking the test with them, showing and explaining the way to arrive at correct answers.  They will also find a mystery novel that has SAT words embedded in it.  If they roll the mouse over the word the definition pops up.  There are also interactive math questions and reading passages and much more.  We give them access to the webpage because kids these days expect information to be available 24/7.  The main learning takes place when the students are taking the tests and then going over them, but the online program is proving to be a very valuable tool since they can access it 24/7.

While most of our students use their SAT scores to get into the college of their choice, we do encourage students to take the ACT as well.  We prepare students for the ACT in a similar manner to the way we prepare for the SAT.
